In Position
I spotted this bear walking through the forest and had a feeling he might use a heavily traveled game trail. So I positioned myself where I thought he would end up and waited.
Between us was a stream. He crossed right through it, soaking the lower half of his body, and then he appeared exactly where I had hoped.
Moments like this remind me that wildlife photography isn't just about camera bodies, lenses, settings, or composition. Those things matter, but what may matter even more is knowing your subject and spending time in the field. Without learning species habits and putting in the time, I would never have been in position to capture this image.
New photographers often expect epic images right out of the gate, but they haven't yet positioned themselves to receive those opportunities. And that got me thinking...
Am I positioned to receive God's blessings in my life? Is my heart in the right place?
Not every trip into the wild produces an unforgettable photograph. Sometimes it takes multiple days in the field with nothing to show for it. But every outing teaches you something. Every "failure" builds knowledge. And when it finally comes together, those difficult days are quickly forgotten.
Placing ourselves in a position to receive God's blessings isn't always instantaneous. The Lord knows our story and knows what we need. But every time we seek Him, trust Him, and put ourselves in position, our hearts and faith are strengthened. Then one day we look back and realize He carried us through far more than we ever understood in the moment.
